Understanding International Toll Free Numbers

International toll free numbers, vanity toll free numbers, international toll free numbers, freephone numbers, ITFS, DID, UIFN. Wow, that’s a lot of stuff. What do these all mean?

International Toll Free Numbers

More importantly, if you are a business, a startup company, or an entrepreneur, how do you make these work for you? Which do you need?

We’ve collected a great set of blog posts that tell a story. The story says that international toll free numbers let customers from around the world reach you for sales and service. Vanity numbers are easy to remember, and freephone numbers (UIFN) let you use nearly the same toll free number in several countries. Great for marketing an “all-Europe” brand, for example.

ITFS numbers let customers in an entire country call your office toll free, and DID numbers let you have a local phone number in Tokyo, Melbourne, Mumbai, Capetown, or New York City.

What Is a Toll-Free Number and How Does it Work?

“Toll free numbers are numbers that begin with one of the following three-digit codes: 800, 888, 877, 866, 855 or 844. Toll free numbers allow callers to reach businesses and/or individuals without being charged for the call. The charge for using a toll free number is paid by the called party (the toll free subscriber) instead of the calling party. Toll free numbers can be dialed directly to your business or personal telephone line.”
